test: drop upgrade from v1 tests These are less crucial since we stopped generating new database versions and relied primarily on features. They also rely on a pre-generated v1 database which happens to be chert format. This backend is not supported by Xapian 1.5. Also drop the tool gen-testdb.sh, which is currently broken, due to changes in the testing infrastructure.
Use rooted paths in .gitignore files A leading / in paths in a .gitignore file matches the beginning of the path, meaning that for patterns without slashes, git will match files only in the current directory as opposed to in any subdirectory. Prefix relevant paths with / in .gitignore files, to prevent accidentally ignoring files in subdirectories and possibly slightly improve the performance of "git status".
test-databases: use wget or curl to download test databases Often Linux systems are shipped with wget(1) by default (and no curl). Many BSDs, macOS, and e.g. some Linux minimal/container images comes with curl(1) (and no wget). Attempting to download with curl if wget is not available increases the likelihood for this to succeed.
Use https instead of http where possible Many of the external links found in the notmuch source can be resolved using https instead of http. This changeset addresses as many as i could find, without touching the e-mail corpus or expected outputs found in tests.
build: add dataclean It turns out to be inconvenient to delete the downloaded datafiles with distclean, so I propose a new target which does that instead. The closest conventional target is 'maintainer-clean'; the difference here is that having the original source tarball is not enough to reconstruct these files.
test: commit database checksum, ignore actual databases The checksum file is used by the test infrastructure to verify the downloaded test database is the one we had in mind. Note that this test is rather strict, and the the checksum file needs to be recommitted when the database is regenerated. add a pattern .gitignore to ignore the actual databases
